I am a seasoned sideline management physiotherapist with a two-year tenure at Grammar Tec Rugby Club. My professional journey has been anchored in the dynamic world of sports, where I've developed a keen interest in postoperative physiotherapy and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Beyond the sidelines, my passion for sports extends to a genuine enjoyment of watching various athletic competitions.
I enjoy working in post-operative care and musculoskeletal physiotherapy, I am dedicated to optimising athletes' recovery and performance. My hands-on experience with Grammar Tec Rugby Club has provided me with valuable insights into the unique challenges of sports-related injuries and the importance of tailored rehabilitation strategies. As I continue to evolve in the field, I am committed to contributing my knowledge and skills to enhance athletes' well-being and elevate standards in the realm of physiotherapy.
I hold a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy from AUT, where I completed clinical placements across various settings, including musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological paediatrics, and an inpatient ICU. My practical experience extends to working with rugby teams, where I assisted with sideline assessments, strapping, and first aid. To further enhance my skills, I have also completed a dry needling course.
My decision to become a physiotherapist was deeply influenced by my experiences as a keen netball player. Frequent injuries led me to physiotherapy clinics, where I developed a keen interest in rehabilitation and witnessed firsthand the positive impact of physiotherapy. These personal encounters with injury and recovery fueled my passion for sports rehabilitation and musculoskeletal care. I am driven by a desire to help others achieve their goals and return to pain-free activity, and I take pride in creating shared goals with my patients to guide their recovery journey. The combination of problem-solving, patient interaction, and observing tangible progress motivates me every day.
One memorable success story involved a patient who sustained a knee injury during jiu-jitsu. After a comprehensive assessment, I suspected a meniscus injury and devised a tailored rehabilitation plan that included a specialist referral, manual therapy, a specific home exercise program, and activity modifications. This approach ultimately led to surgery which has overall had significant improvement of the patient’s condition and a successful return to their activities, highlighting the effectiveness of a personalised and thorough treatment plan.
My areas of expertise include managing sport-related injuries, particularly those involving the ankle and knee. My experience with rugby teams has enhanced my skills in sideline assessment, problem solving and making quick informed decisions. To stay current with the latest developments in physiotherapy, I engage with peers and colleagues to exchange strategies, and I stay updated with relevant research and evidence. This ongoing learning process allows me to integrate new insights into my practice and continuously improve patient outcomes.
